About the Role
This is a newly created position within blu-3, ideal for someone with a background in complex substation and cabling projects from 11kV to 400kV. You’ll act as a technical expert and focal point within the team.
You’ll manage the entire design process—from initial handover through to final approval—ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry regulations, and contractual obligations. Working collaboratively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, you’ll provide technical leadership while contributing to risk management, financial oversight, and resource planning.
You’ll also support tender and procurement activities, collaborate with external design houses, and contribute to the development of internal design standards and processes.
What you’ll be doing
- Deliver electrical connection schemes from 11kV to 400kV, from concept to completion.
- Lead the design and implementation of substation and cabling infrastructure in collaboration with design partners.
- Ensure all designs are compliant with current regulations and DNO/IDNO requirements.
- Work with the tender team on design optimisation, risk identification, and pricing strategy.
- Contribute to in-house design guides and support NERS/ICP registration processes.
- Support the procurement team in selecting and managing supply chain partners.

What we’re looking for
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of CDM regulations and construction practices.
- Demonstrated experience in substation and cabling design, including approval and adoption procedures.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is desirable but not essential.
